Steve James Wright
Steve James Wright is quite simply a powerful force of nature. A multi-instrumentalist, he has spent the better part of his adult life bringing his unique and diverse combination of musical styles to venues all over North America. As a member of the seminal jam band Little Women, he toured through the 80's and 90's, sharing the stage with artists such as Burning Spear, Taj Mahal, the Allman Brothers, Joe Cocker, Hot Tuna, David Lindley, Jackson Browne, Widespread Panic, Steve Kimock, Zero and many more. As a songwriter, his published works have been played around the world, as have the projects he has contributed to as a stellar, first-call, A-list, magic-man, studio musician. Always seeking to push the boundaries further every time he is at work, he brings a new light to every performance and always gives his audience an unforgettable experience. I was lucky enough to have him in my own trio for awhile and to get him for a live five-piece rhythm section CD project called Spindrift, which I produced for my friend and fellow Sound Ground writer, Donna Jose. The first five (basic track) days with that band were sublime. It made the rest of the record so much easier to hear -- just another case of Steve making the artist (and me) very happy. These days you can find him gigging with a diverse bunch of bands including but not limited to, The Vida Girls, The Excort Service, Lafa Taylor, and Alice DiMicele. Samples of his contributions to the Sound Ground Publishing catalog can be heard at soundground.com/pubilsh.samples. I am honored and grateful to call Steve James Wright a friend and to present his music here.
